Don’t get me wrong here. I’m not talking about a person’s physique and I have absolutely nothing against those who are struggling with the battle of the bulge.
Last week, after hearing a particular sermon in church, I started to think about how effective I’ve been in harnessing, developing and utilising the resources, talents, gifts, abilities, etc which I have.
One of my favourite Chinese proverbs goes as follows, “The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now.”
What struck me most is that if one wants to do big and great things, he has to start somewhere in time, and the best time is 5 or 10 years back (so that by now, his dream will be more or less fulfilled). If not, the second best time is now.
Last Thursday, I had a brilliant plan which was to head to the streets with one of my other friend, Ronald, to share our business idea with the store owners. The idea was mainly about consolidating a list of deals, discounts, offers and part-time job opportunities which that stretch of food and beverage outlets could provide to students living in the area.
From the movie “Charlotte’s Web”, I remember 2 scenes in which a pair of crows, Brooks and Elwyn, were perched on a branch of a tree that overlooks a corn field.
They went from hungry to being so desperate for corn that they couldn’t stop talking about darting down towards the fields to give their stomachs some relief.
The only thing which was stopping them was the scarecrow.
There are several signs and indicators which show that you’re really passionate about something. You know you are really passionate about something when…
1. You wake up in the morning and you can’t wait to start working on it.
2. You can’t really get to bed because you keep thinking about it.
3. Your eyes light up and your heart jumps whenever someone talks about it.
4. You can’t stop talking about it.
The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.
